While 2011 seems a long way off for some, others like D.J. Tyson are already thinking about what happens after high school is over. The junior from Evans (GA) Greenbrier HS, has a full plate of activities to keep him occupied but it is football that is on his mind.
D.J. Tyson
has been hearing a lot from programs all over the country including
Florida State
,
Virginia
,
Georgia
,
South Carolina
,
Virginia Tech
and
Syracuse
. He already has an offer from
Eastern Michigan
and lately has been exchanging emails with
Oregon
recruiting coordinator
Jim Fisher
.
Tyson, 5-8, 160 spent time in several football camps this summer and recorded a 4.4 in the 40. He also had a 31-inch vertical leap and a 10-foot standing broad jump.
When the football season came around he found himself being used in several different positions for his team. Although the Wolfpack is 1-2 in only the second year of 5A competition in Georgia, Tyson finds himself playing running back, slot and wide receiver. Then on defense he's a corner and safety. Plus he plays on special teams.
"I never get a break," said Tyson. "I'm always on the field."
Greenbrier runs the spread offense so it's no wonder so many teams that are in contact with him also run the spread at the next level.
The Wolfpack start region (league) play on Friday against Douglass HS.
When football season is over he'll take to the hardwood and play point guard on his basketball team then in the spring he'll participate in track specializing in the 100, 200, 4X100 relay, 400 and broad jump. His best time so far in the 100 is 10.8 and has a 21.0 in the 200.
Academically he carries a 3.1 GPA and will take his SAT in either October or November.
Outside of athletics he is in the National Honor Society along with being a member of HOSA Club (Health Occupations Students of America) making him one very busy young man during the high school year.
D.J. has never been to Oregon but would love to visit sometime in the future. While it is still very early in the recruiting process Tyson promised to keep eDuck informed of what is going on. Whatever happens in football for him, it sure seems like Mr. D.J. Tyson has a bright future in store.
